Andy Nightingale one of our associate trainers for Tactical Training & Security, has wrote an induction to firearms training and awareness for us. Since the U.K. handgun ban in 1996 there has been a great decline in firearms training for the security industry, namely the Private Military Contractor (PMC). To obtain any form of tactical firearms training, be it rifle or handgun, students would have to look overseas to gain the relevant skills and drills. But travelling to a foreign country meant that you would only receive the training and not any pre-training or even any follow-up training and coaching. Several trips are needed per year to be able to continue your training and keep the up to date with the skillset that you already have.
Like most things, shooting is a perishable skill and must be practiced as often as possible to keep those skills sharp. In our line of work we won’t get a second chance if we need to protect ourselves or our principle. The cost of training can run into the thousands, and sometimes we don’t always have that to hand. So what’s the alternative? Especially in the UK.
Calibre Shooting is a small organisation that is run by Ex Military and Law Enforcement instructors with many years experience in tactical firearms training right here in the U.K. Due to the ban of live handguns in the UK, Calibre uses the latest in firearms training platforms to overcome this rule. Calibre’s purpose built indoor tactical range can be configured to accommodate a multitude of different shooting disciplines and scenarios that cater for most situations. The use of specialist lighting on the range can also be used to create low light and zero light conditions in order to cater for tactical situations that occur after dark or in CQB situations. Calibre have many standard tactical training programs that deal with most encounters but can also produce bespoke training packages to suit clients needs.
Calibre offers students a pre firearms training package that will give a heads up on any live fire training overseas that Calibre can also provide. Once students have gained the required skills, Calibre can provide continuation training and coaching programs to keep those skills and drills up to date.
